What's New for July, 2010 Some guys seem to have all the luck and I might just be one of them! Just to be sitting here and writing this is definitely a fortunate twist of fate. It’s a wonderful thought that I regularly refer back to as I race through hectic days as so many of us often do. But here’s something about me that you probably couldn’t know and that I will now willingly reveal: In the past, I used to scoff at the idea of luck, feeling instead that my life was the hard won result of sheer work and dedication. As I get older though, things don’t seem quite so black and white. Personally, I’ve seen too many talented fellow musician friends who have also toiled with a similar passion, but without seeing their labors bear fruit. It is this fact that makes me count my blessings. So yes, I guess I am lucky after all. And for that, I want to give a sincere thanks to all of you for helping me to pursue this dream. May we all be so lucky! Sincerely, Patrick A DAY IN THE LIFE OF PATRICK I recently decided to chronicle the events that typically take place in my everyday life. Hope you enjoy the glimpse into my lifestyle! 8:00 a.m.: I woke up this morning with energy and enthusiasm for a piece of music that I’m considering including on my next CD. I immediately pick up a guitar and start to work on some arrangement ideas, thinking that this would be a good morning to develop some new material. Well, it was a nice thought anyway. 8:30 a.m.: I receive a call from my graphic artist designer, who wishes to show me some design ideas for the cover of a DVD project that was recently filmed. After yelling at him for calling so early, we agree to meet a little later in the morning. By the way, I was just kidding about the yelling part. 9:30 a.m.: I make a quick pit stop at my retail booth in the Tlaquepaque Shopping Village. My table has been operating there for the last 15 years (yahoo!), but unfortunately hasn’t figured out how to run itself automatically. I take inventory, drop off various supplies and help get the business day started. Man, I haven’t even had my first cup of coffee yet! 10:00 a.m.: I meet at the office of the graphic designer and we get down to work. We exchange ideas back and forth and I present several brilliant concepts that I’m sure will impress him. Shortly thereafter, we settle on a design that he came up with before I even got to his office. I guess that’s why he’s the graphic designer … 12:00 p.m.: All this talking sure makes a guy hungry. I head over to the health food store to get lunch. Sometimes I think that I love to eat just as much as playing the guitar. Speaking of playing the guitar … 12:30 p.m.: I try to snatch a few moments to return to the ideas I had earlier for that new song. Amazingly, I actually remember what I came up with earlier, but … 1:00 p.m.: The phone rings, and it’s the company that manufactures copies of my CDs. They want to discuss a recent order I’ve placed for a previous album that is being re-packaged in a more eco-friendly manner. All of this going “green” is making me go “grey”! 1:30 p.m.: I double back to Tlaquepaque to work the afternoon shift at my table. It’s a good thing because by this time I really need to listen to some mellow music in order to recharge my batteries so that I can … 5:30 p.m.: Pack up my operation at Tlaquepaque and head over to the recording studio. Now that the business day is over, it’s time to stop slacking off and really go to work. My recording engineer (who is a genius, by the way) and I spend the next 3 hours fixing little mistakes and string noises on the DVD soundtrack, so that I can even remotely start to sound like the Patrick we’ve all come to know and love. 9:00 p.m.: After returning back home, I get on my computer to compose this diary for our monthly newsletter. Got to let the readers know just how I’m spending all my free time !! 10:00 p.m.: I briefly entertain the notion of working on some more music, but decide instead to try again in the morning. Tomorrow is another day !
